Wheels of the Day
Raceface ARC27 Offset rims laced to Hope Pro4 hubs
When a customer got in touch and asked about some “wider” rims for his singlespeed mountain bike, I recommended he try the newly released offset rims by RaceFace. The asymmetrical design allows one to use the same spoke lengths on both sides of the wheel. resulting in a stronger wheel due to more equal left-to-right spoke tensions.
He provided the hubs, which I would have recommended anyways. I just love Hopes, they’re dead reliable and look great to boot, not to mention the nice loud freehub buzz.
I used DT Swiss Competition double-butted spokes and brass nipples to tie everything together. I laced the wheels in a 3-cross pattern for best strength and lateral stiffness.
I’m happy to hear these wheels will be ridden in the inaugural Race to the Sun and Transbaviaans races in 2018.
