Letting me build your wheels takes longer and costs more

Many people ask why I don’t just sell pre-built wheels at online prices.

To me it’s simple. How do I add value to a product if I simply buy, add a mark up and resell? The answer is, I can’t. Then what’s the point?

Yes, you can buy similar wheels that contain the same hubs, rims and spokes, pre-built, online or in shops for a bit less than I typically charge. I’m a wheel builder and making a quick buck is not why I build wheels.

(I may get close to the price of some off-the-shelf wheels, so don’t be afraid to ask)

It’s not about the money.

The premium you pay when I build your wheels is for the hours of care and precision I put into each wheel that spends time in my stand. You’re paying for the hundreds of hours I’ve spent working on wheels like yours, refining my technique and polishing my skills, building experience and expertise. You’re paying to tap into my passion.

Each wheel that I hand over to my customers comes with a lifetime workmanship warranty, over and above the warranty provided by the rim and hub manufacturers. If your wheel loses true, I fix it at no cost to you. Under normal riding conditions, you should never break a spoke on a wheel I’ve built, but if you do, I’ll replace it for free.

I build wheels properly, not quickly.

If you want instant gratification, I’m not your guy. If you want a set of wheels that will outlast the rest of your bike’s components, or even your frame – let me build them for you.
My mission is to always provide you with the best advice based on the kind of riding you do, your budget and your preferences. I’ll always advise against using products I feel won’t serve you well. I’ll advise against products I think are not good value or good quality. If I don’t feel I can do the job required, I’ll say so.

If lowest cost is the priority, I may not be able to help you. If getting the best possible wheels for your budget is, then I’m your guy.
