Wheel building course
I’ve always loved teaching other people things that I love to do, like photography, scuba diving and bicycle repair. Now I’d like to teach interested cyclists how to successfully build their own wheels.
Wheel building is considered an art and a craft, and is considered by most people to be difficult and mysterious. In fact, it’s like cooking. If you follow the recipe carefully enough, you’re almost guaranteed to succeed. Yes it takes care and patience, but I find it extremely rewarding – taking a hub, rim and handful of spokes and nipples – add a few hours of effort – and you’re left with a strong, reliable, even beautiful result. A bicycle wheel which should serve you for many years to come.
1-on-1 Wheel building course:
- Course duration: 1 Day, 6-8 hours of hands on instruction, theory and practical
- Course cost: R1995 per person

Requirements:
- A hub (new or used) in good condition
- A brand new rim
- New spokes and nipples
- Roger Musson’s “Professional Guide to Wheelbuilding” e-book (Please buy this and download it before you come)

The aim of this course is to teach you how to correctly build a wheel from start to finish. You will build one complete wheel during the course.
The course is run on a 1-to-1 basis to ensure each student gets as much personal attention as possible. You’re welcome to build a road or mountain bike wheel, front or rear. The skills you’ll learn will enable you to build just about any wheel, without further instruction. You get a manual to keep for future reference.
