A unicycle wheel?
Well it was a first for me – a request to build a unicycle wheel. A wheel is a wheel is a wheel, right? Well almost…
The thing about a unicycle is that the cranks turn the wheel directly, like a fixie, but sans chain. The “frame” of the unicycle actually clamps over bearings located on each side of the hub. The thing is, or was, how do I mount this thing in my truing stand?
Well, I figured that out using some self-tapping screws and washers (My stand is made of wood, so easily modified) and it worked out just fine.
I was given the hub, made by Nimbus Unicycles, and a WTB Scraper i45 650b mountain bike rim, and asked to supply spokes and build the wheel.
