Sometimes off-the-shelf isn’t the best option.

These wheels were originally built with alloy nipples and after a few years, they’ve corroded somewhat, and seized to the spokes, and started crumbling.

This makes the wheel impossible to true, and wouldn’t have happened if brass nipples had been used.

I had the privilege of not only rebuilding the wheel with new spokes and nipples, but also upgrading the hub to one of my all time favorites.

This build also reinforced confidence in my abilities – specifically to trust my rim-measuring technique so as to calculate the correct spoke lengths.

Notice the image of the inside of the rim with the spoke perfectly flush with the top of the nipple. This doesn’t always happen, but turned out perfectly this time.
